09/04/2008 - Toronto, ON (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Kip Deville, winner of the 2007 Breeders' Cup Mile, is the 6-5 morning-line favorite for Sunday's $1 million Woodbine Mile. The race is one of the "Win and You're In" events that guarantees a spot for the winner in the $2 million Breeders' Cup Mile at Santa Anita on Saturday, October 25.

Trained by Rick Dutrow, Jr., Kip Deville will be ridden by Cornelio Velasquez from post four in the eight-horse field. In last year's renewal he was second to Shakespeare before beginning a three-race win streak.

This year Kip Deville is undefeated in two starts, the Maker's Mark Mile at Keeneland in April and the Poker Handicap at Belmont Park in July. Overall the five-year-old has won 11 of 23 starts with nearly $2.7 million in earnings.

"He's just been in a zone of his own," said Dutrow. "He's incredible. He's doing unbelievable. I'm just really excited about being able to watch him run again. He certainly appears to be (a better horse than last year). He's just so much more confident in himself. Just feels very good about himself, very proud of himself. He's matured into that type of a horse. He's doing great and right on schedule."

Hall of Fame trainer Bobby Frankel goes after his third Woodbine Mile victory with the filly Ventura. Frankel won the Woodbine Mile with Leroidesanimaux in 2005 and Riviera in 2000.

The four-year-old filly would become the first female to win the race. She will have Garrett Gomez in the saddle and start from the outside post. Gomez was on Shakespeare for the 2007 victory.

Owned by Juddmonte Farms, Ventura won the Just a Game Handicap at Belmont Park in June. She is coming off a second-place finish in the CashCall Mile at Hollywood Park two months ago after a third in the Churchill Distaff Turf Mile on Kentucky Derby Day. She also won the Madison Stakes in April at Keeneland.

"She just got beat an inch (in the CashCall Mile), but I think the one-turn mile will set up good for her," said Frankel. "I've had five Eclipse Award- winning fillies, but I'd rate her pretty good."

The filly, 4-1 in the program, has banked $631,235 in her 13 race career with six wins.

Drawing post six is local runner Ice Bear. Winner of the With Approval Stakes at Woodbine last month, Ice Bear will be ridden again by Chantal Sutherland.

"He's a smart horse," said Sutherland. "He's very athletic and he has a ton of heart. He gives you plenty of pump down the lane. He is a perfect gentleman."

Ice Bear is owned by breeder George Strawbridge, Jr. and trained by Mac Benson. The four-year-old gelding was second in the King Edward Handicap at Woodbine after setting the pace and was seventh in the Ontario Jockey Club as the 3-2 favorite. He has been made a 15-1 longshot in the morning-line.

"There's no place else to run, there's a lot of money at the end and there's no disgrace to be second or third," noted Benson. "He's coming up to the race very good. The girl (Sutherland) is very hot right now, riding exceptionally well. She'll put him wherever he and she are comfortable."

In his career Ice Bear has won five of 16 starts, all at Woodbine, for $363,138.

Here is the complete field in post position order for the 12th Woodbine Mile: Mulmur, Eurico Rosa Da Silva; Rahy's Attorney, Slade Callaghan; Just Rushing, James McAleney; Kip Deville, Cornelio Velasquez; Wollemi Pine, Emma-Jayne Wilson; Ice Bear, Chantal Sutherland; Palladio, Richard Dos Ramos and Ventura, Garrett Gomez.

The Mile has a scheduled post-time of 5:35 p.m. (et).
