11/22/2008 - West Palm Beach, FL (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Suzann Pettersen shot a four-under 68 on Saturday to move atop the leaderboard after the third round of the ADT Championship.
Before the third round, the field was cut to the top 16 and scores were reset. After Saturday's round, the top eight from the third round moved to Sunday's final round when the scores will be reset once again.
It sets up a one-round shootout for a $1 million first-place check.
Last week's Lorena Ochoa Invitational winner, Angela Stanford birdied the last at Trump International Golf Club for second place at three-under 69.
Paula Creamer shot a two-under 70 and is tied for second place with Seon-Hwa Lee.
Creamer is the biggest story of the players remaining.
After Annika Sorenstam's LPGA Tour career ended with a missed cut on Friday and defending champion Ochoa also failed in her quest for another victory, Creamer, with a win, can trump Ochoa and win the money title.
That is, if Creamer is cleared to play on Sunday.
She complained of flu-like symptoms all week, and on Saturday morning the doctor on site believed Creamer to have appendicitis. She was scheduled to see a doctor again after the round.
"We'll see what happens," said Creamer. "I know I hurt and want to get better. It's all about saving my energy and so far I've been doing a pretty good job of that. It's just one more day."
The 18th hole proved crucial in a format where one day's work gets a player to the next day.
Ji-Yai Shin and Jeong Jang both birdied the closing hole to polish off rounds of one-under 71.
Karrie Webb missed a two-footer for par at the 18th that gave her an even-par 72. She headed to a playoff with Eun-Hee Ji and Sun Young Yoo to determine the final two spots for Sunday.
Those places went to Webb and Ji, who both parred the first playoff hole.
The last hole hurt Helen Alfredsson the most.
She stepped to the tee at one-under par for the round and drove into the right rough. Alfredsson hit her second on to the putting surface, but the ball ran through the green and into the water.
It was difficult just dropping her ball since the areas close to the green were so closely shaven. After finally getting a chance at the fourth, Alfredsson's chip hit the mound in front of the green and rolled back toward the water.
The ball didn't have a chance to splash. Alfredsson stopped the ball before it reached the pond. She ended up with a triple-bogey seven, and it could've been worse.
Officials asked to speak with her after the round about stopping the ball. Alfredsson claimed an official gave her permission to do so, and she was not assessed any further strokes.
She signed for a two-over 74 and missed on a chance to play on Sunday.
Katherine Hull was the overnight leader and a victim to the format. She struggled to a seven-over 79 and missed the second cut.
Pettersen birdied the par-five third hole but found serious trouble at the next. She triple-bogeyed the par-four fourth but got back to even-par thanks to back-to-back birdies at six and seven.
Pettersen birdied the 10th hole to get into red figures for the round. After the birdie at 10, Pettersen caught fire. She rattled off four consecutive birdies from the 13th, including a pair of 12-footers at 15 and 16.
She faced a difficult birdie putt at the 17th. Pettersen watched playing partner Ji run her birdie effort almost 10 feet past the hole and Pettersen faced a similar length putt.
Pettersen's eight-foot birdie try missed on the left side and ran some seven feet past the flagstick. She missed the comebacker but parred 18 and got the 54-hole lead.
Not that it matters.
Since the scores are reset for Sunday, the only advantage for Pettersen is that she played well heading into one final round and a shot at $1 million.
"It was nice to get used to seeing the ball drop in the hole," said Pettersen, who is winless on tour this year. "I kept saying all week that the best golf was ahead of me."
Angela Park, Jee Young Lee, Karen Stupples, Christina Kim and In-Kyung Kim joined Alfredsson, Hull and Yoo in missing the final round.

Mayweather picked to beat De La Hoya
LAS VEGAS, NEVADA -- Golden Boy Oscar De La Hoya and his rival Floyd Mayweather Jr. arrived at the MGM Grand here Wednesday amid the pomp and pandemonium befitting two of the biggest stars in the sport who are about to duke it out for the WBC super welterweight crown this Saturday (Sunday in Manila).
As of Wednesday, MySportsbook.com closed its book with Mayweather a favorite to defeat De La Hoya at -170 (a $100 bet wins $70), while De La Hoya is a +140 underdog (a $100 bet wins $140).
Mayweather arrived at about 11:30 a.m. on a big truck with his face and a big "World's Best Pound-for-Pound" sign scribbled across the vehicle. He was accompanied by his entourage made up of rappers and his training team.
A crowd of close to 3,000 eager fans packed the MGM Grand lobby, with their cameras in tow, all trying to vie for position to get a good angle at Mayweather, who is acknowledged as the world's best fighter pound-for-pound.
Eric Gomez, Golden Boy Promotions vice-president, described the fan turnout as "amazing" and swore he had never seen anything quite like this event.
"The crowd was fantastic. Everybody was just too eager to see the two fighters," said ALA manager Michael Aldeguer, who was among those who waited at the lobby together with his ward Rey "Boom Boom" Bautista and AJ Banal.
De La Hoya made his own grand entrance at the hotel lobby at around 12:30 p.m. accompanied by GBP chief executive officer Richard Schaefer and trainer Freddie Roach.
The same group of fans who trooped to see Mayweather also lingered around to get a close look at De La Hoya, who has been secretly working out at a Las Vegas gym for days after arriving from his main training camp in Puerto Rico.
The golden boy then took part in a closed-door afternoon workout with Bautista and Banal. The two, along with Aldeguer and wife Christine, as well as an HBO crew were the only ones allowed inside the gym.
De La Hoya and Mayweather take part in today's final press conference before the official weigh-in this Friday.
Ring Magazine, the acknowledged bible of boxing, reported in its June 2007 issue that 12 out of 20 boxing experts it interviewed have favored Mayweather to defeat De la Hoya, with only 8 favoring the latter.
But Filipino ring icon Manny Pacquiao said in a recent interview with The Freeman's Emmanuel Villaruel that De La Hoya will win by unanimous decision over Mayweather.
