11/03/2008 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The Philadelphia Phillies have scheduled a press conference for 10 a.m. (et) on Monday to announce the selection of Ruben Amaro, Jr. as Pat Gillick's replacement for the team's general manager position.
The 43-year-old Amaro beat out Mike Arbuckle for the job in what was viewed as a two-man race.
Amaro has served as an assistant general manager under Gillick and previously worked under former GM Ed Wade, who is currently with the Houston Astros in the same capacity. He has been involved in contract negotiations and was the executive who introduced Brad Lidge to the media last offseason.
A Philadelphia native, Amaro played for the Angels, Phillies and Indians during an eight-year pro career.
The Phillies recently captured their second World Series title last Wednesday, defeating the Tampa Bay Rays four games to one. Gillick announced prior to the 2008 season that he would be stepping down to spend more time with his family.
Gillick led the Toronto Blue Jays to two World Series titles and the Baltimore Orioles to two ALCS appearances before coming to the Phillies prior to the 2006 season. In his three seasons with Philadelphia, the team went 267-219 and won two NL East titles.
Arbuckle, the team's assistant general manager who has been with the Phillies since the 1992 season in various roles, will be leaving the organization to pursue other opportunities. Arbuckle is often credited with helping build the current team, having presided over the drafts that netted players such as Ryan Howard, Cole Hamels, Chase Utley, Jimmy Rollins, Pat Burrell and Brett Myers.

New York, NY – October 3, 2007 – The dress rehearsal is over! The NHL preseason has ended and now that fans have had a glimpse of what is to come it is time to hit the book! Stanley Cup odds are live at MySportsbook.com, the world’s largest online sportsbook and casino.
The Ottawa Senators and Detroit Red Wings remain on top of the odds charts after an impressive start in the preseason. Betting lines opened for both teams at 6-1 in June. Since then the Sens have fallen to 7-1 and the Red Wings are now caught in a pack including the defending champion Carolina Hurricanes, the San Jose Sharks and the Anaheim Ducks, all at 10-1.
MySportsbook.com has also posted props on each team’s point total for the regular season. The Senators lead the charge at 108.5 followed by the Ducks at 106.5. Detroit will attempt a repeat for the prize as the Red Wings are deadlocked with the Predators at 104.5 a piece. The temporary loss of highly touted rookie Evgeni Malkin puts a lot of pressure on the stick of assistant captain Sidney Crosby - his lowly Pittsburgh Penguins are listed at 71.5.
Even if bettors are not brave enough to put their money on the underdog, an early bet on the favorites at sportsbook.com tends to produce bigger payouts than a mid-season wager. Placing a $1,000 bet last summer on the Detroit Red Wings or Ottawa Senators would have paid out to $8,000 and $10,000 respectively, opposed to a $2,500 or $3,000 payout at the beginning of the playoffs.
