11/25/2008 - Maui, HI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - In what promises to be one of the best games of this young college basketball season to date, the sixth-ranked Texas Longhorns and the eighth-ranked Notre Dame Fighting Irish will battle for the right to play in the Maui Invitational championship game. The title will be decided tomorrow, and the winner of this clash will take on either top-ranked North Carolina or Oregon.
Texas got off to a good start in Maui with a 68-50 romp over Saint Joseph's yesterday. The Longhorns are now 3-0 this season, and the 18-point decision over the Hawks actually marked the smallest margin of victory thus far for Texas. The program now owns a 5-2 all-time record at this tournament but has never reached the title game.
As for Notre Dame, it participated in this event only one other time back in 1993, and the team finished with a 1-2 record in Maui that year. Like the Longhorns, the Fighting Irish opened this new campaign with two straight home wins, and the team moved to 3-0 with yesterday's 88-50 thrashing of Indiana.
Texas and Notre Dame have split their only two previous meetings, and the Fighting Irish won the most recent matchup by a 98-92 final in 2002.
Texas played tremendous defense against Saint Joseph's, limiting the Hawks to 29.3 percent shooting from the floor and forcing them into a season-high 18 turnovers. The Longhorns were not explosive at the offensive end by any means, but they certainly played well enough to win. A.J. Abrams was impressive as usual, as he nailed 4-of-7 three-pointers en route to 17 points. Damion James contributed 14 points, and Gary Johnson also had 14 points to go along with 10 rebounds. Through three outings, Abrams is scoring a team-high 17.7 ppg from his guard position. He has connected on 12-of-24 three-pointers and is an experienced leader on the court. James checks in with 14.3 ppg, and Connor Atchley is contributing 11.0 ppg. As for Johnson, he rounds out the double- digit scorers with 10.3 ppg. Texas is generating 70.7 ppg while holding opponents to 46.3 ppg on 28.9 percent shooting from the field.
Like Texas, Notre Dame played outstanding defense yesterday in its game against Indiana, limiting the Hoosiers to 39.6 percent shooting from the floor while also forcing them into 20 turnovers. A 43-33 rebounding advantage helped the Fighting Irish, as well as a low total of 10 turnovers. All of the positives helped to overshadow the fact that Notre Dame shot 2-of-7 from the foul line. Tory Jackson led five double-digit scorers with 21 points in the win, and he also dished out six assists to go along with three steals. Kyle McAlarney contributed 18 points, Luke Harangody tallied 14 points, and Ryan Ayers posted 13 points. As for Luke Zeller, he posted 10 points and 11 rebounds off the bench. Harangody, the reigning Big East Player of the Year, is averaging 23.7 ppg through three outings to go along with 12.0 rpg. Jackson adds 14.3 ppg and 5.3 apg to the mix, and Zeller is scoring 11.3 ppg. McAlarney has gotten off to a slow start, but the is a tremendous guard who will hit his stride sooner than later.

Matt Kenseth And Kevin Harvick Favorites To Take NASCAR Nextel Cup Championship
(September 15)—The NASCAR season has hit the homestretch with the opening event on this year’s Chase for the Cup taking place this weekend at the Sylvania 300 at New Hampshire International Speedway. With 10 races remaining to determine the Cup Series champion, leading online sportsbook MySportsbook.com today announced odds on all 10 Chase qualifying drivers capturing the NASCAR Sprint Cup Championship.
One of the largest sportsbook sites on the Internet, MySportsbook.com currently lists the top two drivers in the point standings as the early favorites to win the Nextel Cup. Entering the Chase for the Cup with a slim five-point lead in the point standings, 2003 NASCAR champ Matt Kenseth has been made a slight favorite to win his second Cup at 7/2 betting odds. 2001 Cup Rookie of the Year Kevin Harvick has betting odds listed at 5/2 and four-time NASCAR champion Jeff Gordon is listed at 6/1 to capture the Nextel Cup this year.
Hoping to follow in the footsteps of his legendary father who won six NASCAR titles, Dale Earnhardt Jr. stands at 8/1 to breakthrough with his first Cup victory. Staying with the family theme, MySportsbook.com lists 2005 Rookie of the Year Kyle Busch at 14/1 to succeed big brother Kurt’s 2004 NASCAR title. While Kasey Kahne was the final driver to qualify for the Chase with a third place finish last week, the oddsmakers give him a fighting chance at 10/1 mainly due to several mile-and-a-half tracks remaining on the schedule. Despite going winless on the NASCAR circuit this season, Jeff Burton enters the Chase at 5/1 to capture the Cup title. Meanwhile, rookie Denny Hamlin is 4/1 to win the championship, while veteran driver Mark Martin enters the Chase for the Cup as a 15/1 long shot to win his first NASCAR title in his 24th and final season.
MySportsbook.com will offer comprehensive Nascar betting lines on every race remaining on the Nextel Cup series including driver match-ups, props and odds to win each race. For a complete list of NASCAR odds, please visit www.MySportsbook.com.
