Top-ranked Tar Heels take on Ducks in Maui

Cbasketball Betting Lines

11/25/2008 - Maui, HI (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - The top-ranked North Carolina Tar Heels of the ACC and the Oregon Ducks of the Pac-10 Conference are set to do battle on the second day of the Maui Invitation. The winner of this game between the Tar Heels and the Ducks will face the winner of the Texas-Notre Dame clash in the championship on Wednesday.

North Carolina is 11-2 in the Maui Invitational and has won the event twice. The Tar Heels opened play at this event yesterday with a 115-70 romp over Chaminade, the tournament's host team. UNC is now 4-0 this season, and it has won all four of its outings by 15 or more points.

As for Oregon, it is participating in the Maui Invitational for the first time in program history. The Ducks were extremely impressive yesterday in a 92-69 decision over Alabama, and they are now 3-1 this season. The lone loss came in overtime to Oakland.

North Carolina has won all three previous meetings with Oregon.

North Carolina's Tyler Hansbrough, the reigning national player of the year, is listed as questionable for today's game. Hansbrough is suffering from a shin injury, and while that injury does appear to be healing well, the rugged forward tweaked his ankle against UC Santa Barbara and did not play against Chaminade yesterday. Still, the Heels were dominant against Chaminade, as they connected on 60.8 percent of their field goal attempts and finished with 26 assists against only seven turnovers. Danny Green was outstanding, as he scored a career-high 26 points in only 22 minutes of action. Ty Lawson contributed 19 points and six assists with zero turnovers in 19 minutes, and Wayne Ellington posted 14 points. Deon Thompson rounded out the double-digit scorers with 13 points for UNC, and he currently leads the team with 15.5 ppg to go along with 7.0 rpg. Lawson adds 15.3 ppg and 5.8 apg, while Ellington is scoring 15.0 ppg. As for Green, he checks in with 13.9 ppg. Hansbrough has only played one game, and the coaches won't play him in Maui unless they are assured that the star isn't risking further injury.

Oregon connected on 52.5 percent of its field goal attempts against Alabama yesterday and dished out 19 assists. The Ducks also earned a narrow rebounding margin and shot a respectable 21-of-29 from the foul line. That contest was actually close at intermission, but Oregon limited Alabama to 28.6 percent shooting from the field over the final 20 minutes. Joevan Catron was outstanding, as he scored 17 points to go along with 13 rebounds, six assists and three steals, proof of the forward's versatility. Michael Dunigan posted 18 points and 10 rebounds, as the center shot 8-of-9 from the field. Tajuan Porter pitched in 12 points, although his 3-of-13 shooting effort from the field was less than impressive. So far this season, Oregon is scoring 80.2 ppg while allowing 73.0 ppg to the opposition. Dunigan and Porter are tied for the team scoring lead with 14.3 ppg apiece, and Dunigan is pulling down 8.5 rpg.
