11/30/2008 - Philadelphia, PA (Sportsbook Betting Lines) - Dante Cunningham scored 19 points and pulled down 12 rebounds as the 20th-ranked Villanova Wildcats beat the Rhode Island Rams, 78-65, in the title game of the Philly Classic at The Palestra.
Along with Cunningham, four other Villanova (6-0) players scored in double figures for the game. Corey Fisher had 14, Reggie Redding posted 11 points and 12 rebounds, Scottie Reynolds added 13 points and Antonio Pena scored 10.
Rhode Island (5-2) was led by Jimmy Baron's 23 points and Keith Cothran scored 12.
Rhode Island's only lead of the game, 2-0, happened with its first basket of the contest at the 19:13 mark. Villanova led by as many as ten in the opening half.
The Wildcats took a 17-8 advantage with 15:44 to go on a free throw by Corey Stokes. Cunningham made a free throw at 13:07 to give Villanova an 18-8 lead. The Rams began cut into the deficit to get within 25-20 at the six-minute mark.
Midway through the half the Wildcats led 20-15. Two minutes later the Rams trimmed the lead to 22-18. At the five-minute mark Baron got the Rams to within 27-22 by making two of three free throws, and he hit a three-point shot to make the score 37-33 with 34 seconds to play in the half.
The Wildcats went into the locker room with a 40-33 halftime lead.
Early in the second half Villanova built its lead to 47-37 with solid defense against the Rams. Rhode Island made it 53-43 at 13:45 on a basket by Baron following Ben Eaves making just one free throw on a Villanova intentional foul.
The Wildcats built the lead back to 57-43 with 12:40 to go on a Cunningham bucket. With ten minutes to play Villanova led 61-46 as Cunningham continued to control the inside.
With 6:47 to play two Baron free throws cut the lead to 63-54, but the Wildcats answered with a three-point basket by Redding. Shane Clark drove the baseline to score two and put Villanova up 68-54 with 5:26 left. The Rams got to within 73-63 with 1:35 left on a Baron driving lay-up and free throw. A Rhode Island basket at 44 seconds brought the Rams to 74-65.
Redding and Cunningham closed the scoring with each draining a pair of free throws.

Villanova leads the all-time series with the Rams 5-2...Pena is a perfect 8-for-8 from the free throw line in his last two games. Villanova shot 83.9- percent from the free throw line while the Rams shot just 66.7-percent.
